- When I was shopping around for different providers (when I switched
- from a shell account to a SLIP/PPP account), I tried logging onto
- various providers' data lines. I was amazed at the variance. One
- would only connect at 24000; another one caused the modem to make the
- noise indicative of a high-speed connection -- yet only connect at
- 9600. With my present provider, I get 28800 connections almost all
- the time. So check around -- the problem could be on the other end.
